Entries are now open for the 2027 Babcock 10K Series, as Babcock International Group (Babcock) at HMNB Clyde announces the continuation of its sponsorship for at least another three years and prepares to celebrate a decade of supporting one of Scotland’s most established community sporting events.
Originally launched as the Polaroid 10K Series in 1983, the event has become a fixture of the Scottish athletics calendar. Since Babcock became title sponsor in 2017, participation has grown to levels last seen in 2010, with almost 2,200 runners taking part across this year’s events in Glasgow, Dumbarton, and Helensburgh. Of those, 235 represented Babcock, the Royal Navy, and the Ministry of Defence.
Through sustained investment and partnership, Babcock has helped make this success possible, supporting the continued growth of the Series and expanding opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved.
The 2027 Series will include a number of special initiatives to mark the 10th anniversary of Babcock’s sponsorship, alongside commemorative finisher medals, and a limited-edition anniversary T-shirt for participants.
The 2027 events are:
The partnership between Babcock and athletics clubs Shettleston, Dumbarton and Helensburgh remains focused on promoting active lifestyles, improving participation and supporting communities across west central Scotland.
International runners like Calum Johnson from Gateshead who has won three titles in Helensburgh and one on Glasgow Green and Olympians such as Sonia Samuels from Manchester’s Sale Harriers continue to raise the standards at the front of the races whilst club athletes and recreational runners alike aspire to share the values of the leading athletes of teamwork, resilience, trust, discipline and continuous improvement.
As one of the region’s largest employers, Babcock uses partnerships such as the 10K Series to champion wellbeing, resilience, teamwork and personal development among colleagues, business partners and local communities. The events bring together employees, families, clubs and community groups, helping to strengthen local connections and encourage participation in sport at all levels.
The popular 2K Family Fun Run at Shettleston continues to inspire younger participants, helping build positive habits around physical activity, wellbeing and healthy living from an early age.
The 2027 Series will also feature collaborations with Babcock’s nominated charity, CHAS and Robin House Children’s Hospice, as well as Glasgow Warriors, further strengthening links between the event and the communities it serves.
For the 2027 Series, Babcock and the series organisers are proud to be partnering with Robin House, CHAS Children’s Hospice in Balloch, as our nominated charity.
Thanks to a £1 donation from every entry, combined with the contribution of all administrative charges from our timing and entry partner, ProTay, and our online promotional partner, RUN ABC, we hope to make a meaningful contribution.
Together, we’re delighted to be working alongside Robin House and CHAS, helping to make a difference for children and families across Scotland and supporting their mission to transform palliative care for those who need it most.
Participants in last year’s Series covered almost 12,500 miles collectively, and runners in 2027 will aim to complete that symbolic journey around the globe.
